Laptop Information

Students are provided Apple MacBook Airs with professional software. These laptops have a value of $1150 Students/families are responsible for these laptops. We strongly encourage all families to purchase laptop insurance each year.

Students that damage their laptops will be billed and expected to pay the full cost of the repair. Daily loaner laptops will be issued until students/families provided 25% of the repair cost. Typical repair cost is usually $300-$800 depending on type of damage. Once the original laptop is repaired and the initial repair cost of 25% has been paid, the laptop will be re-issued to the student. The remainder of the laptop repair bill is expected to be paid within that current school year. Payment plans for repair are available. Full repair payment is always accepted.

*That computer insurance is NOT provided by the school, Chawanakee Unified School District will not purchase insurance for your student's computer (for the 2022-2023 school year).   If you are interested in purchasing insurance for district issued device, you may want to consider Worth Group Ave. insurance. https://www.worthavegroup.com You may also want to check with your homeowners insurance company to see if they offer that service.

LAPTOP INSURANCE INFORMATION

Why? In the last year we had 2 laptops stolen, and about 15% of them damaged with significant cost to each student. Much of this is carelessness. We constantly remind students to PROTECT THE TECH. Unfortunately, some don’t. We strongly encourage each Minarets family to get Laptop Insurance.

This agreement must be signed in ParentSquare before new laptop is issued.

Please READ thoroughly. Parents and Guardians, please review these rules/procedures with your student.

  1. MacBook Air 13”(M1) computer replacement cost for this school year(2021-2022) is $1150.00

  2. I understand the replacement price for a 30W USB-C charger with cable is $60.00

  3. I agree to pay full replacement cost of the computer I’m issued if it is lost or damaged beyond repair. If computer is repairable, I will pay cost of that repair.*

  4. I will be issued only ONE power supply(USB-C) per year.

  5. I have read the “Protect the Tech” flyer and understand my options and my responsibilities.

  6. I understand the school has the right to require the return of the laptop at any time. The school has monitoring/safety software installed on laptop.

  7. I understand that I am not to HACK, MANIPULATE, or CHANGE software on the laptop. I am not authorized to install software. Games and other software are not to be used during school hours without permission of a teacher.

  8. I understand I should NEVER leave my laptop UNATTENDED. I’m using it for work or it is in my ZIPPED UP PADDED BACKPACK that is on my shoulders.

  9. I understand that if I find or see an unattended laptop, I am to turn it in IMMEDIATELY to a school employee, preferably in the front office.

  10.  I understand that I am not to take off the laptop case/cover. I will not put stickers or other items on the cover or inside it without permission of school personnel. Covers are easily damaged with repeated removal. Cost for replacement covers is $30.00.
